The Texas Stampede returned to 2019 action this weekend at the West Grey Sport Complex in Houston Texas. The team led by veteran and 1.0 class Gabriel Garcia come into the season with a desire to improve upon last years third-place finish at the national championships.

“The Texas cup has always been a great competition for all the teams in the state, said coach” James Gumbert. “The idea is to have this has a proving grounds for emerging athletes to play along side some of the best from each team”. We have certainly seen the benefit and growth by using this model over the years”. “There were athletes at the beginning of the year show vast improvements when they are able to play outside of practice against in-state opponents”.

Texas won the cup by going 2-1 over the weekend. Their play was highlighted by a final 62 - 48 victory over Houston. “We were pleased with how we consistently got better over the weekend”. “We certainly didn’t want to lose one but in the end I think it showed that the level of performance is getting stronger in the state”. Said Gumbert. “All teams at this tournament showed improvement over last year”. “The return of San Antonio (2-1) and the emergence of RISE (1-2) (Dallas) show that all teams can come away with victories.
